Today’s reading: Bible Gateway Old/New Testament 365 Reading Plan January 29 2015

Today’s Old Testament reflection: Exodus 21-22

Hebrew Servants – Exodus 21:1-11 | no commentary
Personal Injuries – Exodus 21:12-36 | no commentary
Protection of Property – Exodus 22:1-15 | no commentary
Social Responsibility – Exodus 22:16-31 | no commentary

The above sections cover many general life instructions. All are common sense type things, like assuming personal responsibility for your actions and/or negligence. I can see how the U.S. was founded on Biblical principles. I recognized many ways in which these principles are the root of our current governmental system and laws.

Today’s New Testament reflection: Matthew 19

Divorce – Matthew 19 | v.1-2 large crowds followed Jesus. v.3 Pharisees tried to test Him – is it ok to divorce for any and every reason? v.4-6 Jesus quoted Scripture and reminded them of God’s original plan for two to become one (Genesis 2:24). He said what God joins together let no man separate. v.7 the Pharisees were basically like, “Oh yeah, Jesus…then why did Moses allow it then? Huh? Why did Moses grant divorce? Huh?” v.8 Jesus said because their hearts were hard but it was not that way from the beginning and anyone who divorces commits adultery – unless for sexual immorality. We also know cheating occurs mentally as lustful thoughts (Matthew 5:27-28). v.10 disciples decided it’s better not to marry at all then. v.11 Jesus explained that not everyone can accept this Word, only the ones to whom it was given. v.12 some eunuchs are born that way, others are made to be, and some who chose to live like it for the sake of the Kingdom – the one who can accept this should.

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!

I am inspired Jennifer. The thing that popped for me this am was God’s words are the same today , as back 2000 year’s ago and will always remain unchanged. We have to quit identifying with the world and start identifying with God’s word. I enjoyed your post.

    Much love Tom
