Today’s reading: Bible Gateway Old/New Testament 365 Reading Plan February 7 2015

Today’s Old Testament reflection: Leviticus 1-3

The Burnt Offering – Leviticus 1 | recounts God’s instruction (details and preparations) for the Burnt Offering – in most cases, the details are greater here than in previous sections.

The Grain Offering – Leviticus 2 | recounts God’s instruction (details and preparations) for the Grain Offering – in most cases, the details are greater here than in previous sections.

The Fellowship Offering – Leviticus 3 | recounts God’s instruction (details and preparations) for the Fellowship Offering – in most cases, the details are greater here than in previous sections. Also says we shall not eat any fat or blood – lasting ordinance for all generations to come.

Today’s New Testament reflection: Matthew 24:1-28

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times – Matthew 24:1-28 | {my NASB study Bible describes this next section – the Olivet Discourse – as some of the most important prophetic material in all of Scripture. And as such, I will leave most of the details of this reading intact} Jesus walked away from the temple, and was joined by His disciples. They called His attention to the magnificent temple buildings which were probably the most impressive structures around at the time.

“Do you see all these things?” Jesus asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” {can you imagine that? This prophecy was fullfilled in 70 A.D.}

Later, while sitting on the Mt. of Olives, the disciples came to Jesus privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” {referring to the destruction of the temple buildings and end time} Jesus replied, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many (but not God’s elect). You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains” (2 Timothy 3:13). Jesus continued, “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me (1 Thessalonians 5:3, Revelation 6:1-17; 8:1-9:21;16:1-21). At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people {those who fall away were never really true believers – 1 John 2:19}. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved (1 Peter 1:5, Jeremiah 32:40, Hebrews 10:23;26-29, Revelation 3:11, John 10:28-29, Romans 8:38-29, 1 Corinthians 1:8-9, Philippians 1:6). And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations (Matthew 28:18-20, Revelation 14:6), and then the end will come. So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation (Daniel 9:27;11:31),’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel (as well as Paul: 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4,  and John: Revelation 13:14-15)—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains (1 Samuel 23:29). Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath {as these conditions would be restrictive and limiting} For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again (God’s wrath and judgment – Revelation 16;19). If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened (possibly only 3 1/2 years – Daniel 7:25, Revelation 12:14). {Thank You God} At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect (John 10:4-5) {in every previous reading I thought this line said, ‘they would deceive the elect,’ but this time God revealed to me the lie I thought I read. This is BIG! It challenges me to dig deeper and evaluate how I am reading and comprehending Scripture, see also v.5} See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. {remember…NO ONE WILL MISS IT WHEN JESUS RETURNS – NOT ONE – each and everyone will know when He comes!} Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.” {So it will be when He returns!}

Jennifer – I Give God All The Glory

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!

  1. You know? I have never been able to get through Leviticus. I guess I should try again sometime. And wow! The end times are pretty scary. To know that wickedness will increase -have you noticed how many of the TV shows are going to really evil themes. I won’t watch them, but millions of others will TV situations desensitize viewers and that can’t be good. I appreciate you for getting me to also dig deeper. I am not at the level of study you are. If God wants me to spend that much time in digging through scripture He will have to relieve me from a lot of what I am doing. Time is just not there for me to spend hours in study. 😦

    • Jane,

      You are not alone sister! Believe me when I say this… I actually contemplated skipping this book (as well as Kings and Chronicles) – LOL! I get so very distracted reading the same thing over and over. I find those books very repetitive – every other sentence or paragraph blends and then I don’t pay attention because I think I read it already. Argh!!! I have to remind myself, it’s the Bible for a reason, so I try to enjoy it. Try….

      As far as deeper Bible study – I am so glad your along for the Word journey! And hey, remember no pressure! We’re all running the individual race God has set before us and we REST knowing He gives us exactly what we need for the moment. For this I am extremely thankful because I couldn’t do this everyday on my own my strength. Oh, boy I’d burn out faster than my gas tank – for sure! I treasure the time I have for study (whether hours or minutes) – we know every second in His Word is so precious 🙂 So, sister let’s just sit back and rest in His power. Let’s watch Him bring us to life. Let’s watch Him do something new in us – endurance, obedience and submission! Yes Lord!

      God bless you!
