Today’s reading: Bible Gateway Old/New Testament 365 Reading Plan February 8 2015

Today’s Old Testament reflection: Leviticus 4-5

The Sin Offering – Leviticus 4-5:1-13 | recounts God’s instruction (details and preparations) for the Sin Offering – in most cases, the details are greater here than in previous sections. Covers unintentional sin for 1) anointed priests, 2) whole Israelite community, 3) leaders, 4) individual member of community. As well as certain types of sins against each other.

The Guilt Offering – Leviticus 5:14-19 | recounts God’s instruction (details and preparations) for the Guilt Offering – in most cases, the details are greater here than in previous sections.

Today’s New Testament reflection: Matthew 24:29:51

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times {cont.} – Matthew 24:29-35 | {my NASB study Bible describes this next section – the Olivet Discourse – as some of the most important prophetic material in all of Scripture. And as such, I will leave most of the details of this reading intact}

…Jesus continued…“Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken (Isaiah 13:10;34:4, Ezekiel 32:7, Joel 2:10;2:31, Zephaniah 1:15, Revelation 6:12-13;8:12).’ {Sign #1: the sun be darkened and moon will not give light, stars will fall from sky, and heavenly bodies will be shaken}

“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. {Sign #2: Jesus will come on the clouds of heaven – ALL the people of earth WILL SEE Him and they will mourn their rejection of Him. } And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other {Sign #3: with a great trumpet sound, He will send His angels to gather His elect (I assume this means those who are His but this verse gives no further details. My NASB Study Bible says it means His elect from heaven and earth collectively but the text doesn’t say either way) from one end of Heaven (possibly sky) to the other}. Next, Jesus taught them another lesson using a fig tree as an illustration. He said when it’s twigs get tender and its leaves come out you know that summer is near. Meaning they will know when they see all these things that it (He) is near, right at their door. Jesus goes on to say that ‘this generation’ {future} will definitely not pass away until all these things have happened. He adds that Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away. {God’s Word endures forever 1 Peter 1:25)

The Day and Hour Unknown  – Matthew 24:36-51 | Jesus said that no one knows that day or hour except God. {don’t listen to anyone when they give you an exact date (saying tomorrow or in 5 years) because God’s Word is crystal clear that only He knows!} Jesus also tells them that the end time will be just like in the days of Noah – marrying, drinking, and partying and then they were caught off guard when the flood came and swept them away. That is how it will be when Jesus returns, the people will be focused on their wants and needs (lovers of self) completely preoccupied by the life in the world and worldy things (careers, families, friends, and fun). They will be grossly unaware and then all of a sudden… two men will be in the field working; one will be taken (up with Jesus) and the other left and two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken (up with Jesus) and the other left. Jesus gave them clear warning in saying, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come {it can happen at anytime}. He further explains this by telling them to ‘understand this’ —》if the homeowner knew the time of night the thief would come, then he would have been alert, stayed awake, kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. In the same way, Jesus tells us to ‘BE READY’ because He will come when we least expect Him.

Jesus goes on to tell another parable about a wise and faithful servant whose master left him in charge of his household and food while he went away. He gave his servant instructions as how to manage things {as with any ‘job’ it is good for us to do as our employer expects or we might lose our job due to poor performance }. The master would reward his servant for proper management and give him more authority. {in the same way, excellent performance might lead to promoting} But if/when the servant thinks the master is long gone and that he can do as he pleases (partying and mistreating those below his authority) the master will come unannounced (unexpectedly) on a day when he least expects him and at an hour when he is completely unaware. The master will punish the servant (cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth) {Yikes! No thank you!}

Sweet Souls, I am sorry for not posting yesterday. The day got away from me. I completely missed my 6PM CST submission goal by an entire day! Thank You Jesus for persistent endurance! This was the 1st time in almost 40 days that I didn’t submit my #DWB2015 post on the same day as the reading – it hurt. There is a 1st time for everything and I’m really thankful to get it done at all 🙂 We all face challenges and schedule detours everyday but it’s how we respond them and Who we lean on that gets us through them. Respond in praise and lean ever closer to God! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed day 39 🙂 I pray God spoke to you while you read this, I urge you to listen to whatever He put on your heart. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback. The goal and purpose of Bible study is for us to grow spiritually. I pray God gives us the wisdom to provide mutually beneficial thought-provoking, Christ-like inspiration.

God bless you all!

Jennifer – I Give God All The Glory

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!

  1. I thought I missed your post yesterday then I realized it was Sunday and maybe that is your day off. I pray so hard for my family members because several are not believers. I am concerned about the end of the time coming and when Jesus gathers his children they will not be in His arms. Thanks for posting. Keep up the great work!

    • Jane,

      I know how badly our hearts ache for the lives of the lost but I can’t fathom how much it pains our God. We know it is not His Will that any should perish but for all come to eternal life through Christ. Knowing that truth, we can stand and boldly in agreement with God. We confess and thank Jesus for seeking out and revealing Himself to ALL of those whom are written on your heart. We believe they will have a radical encounter with Jesus that will change their lives eternally – Salvation! Thanks and glory and honor and power to our Father in Heaven for by His Word everything has its being!

      God bless you and yours!!!
