Father’s Day For The Rest Of Us – When Missing Your Earthly Father Is More Than You Can Bear

Father’s Day 2015

I miss my daddy – my Daddio.

I miss my grandpa – my Papa.

Days like today allow the depression free access to my mind. The pain and hurt don’t just creep in, they swell and overtake. The anger comes to a boil. Why was all this precious time stolen from me? Emotions thick and powerful collide in my heart – they’re taking me over. The deceptive sadness begs to cover me like a warm, cozy blanket. Lies. It lulls me into darkness. Lies. I finally give up the fight and tuck myself in tight – too tight. I let the darkness snuff my light.

Pitiful, I know, but it’s a pain I know well. I mourn for those who’ve lost their earthly father. I feel your pain. What do we do with all this hurt? Where does one turn when overwhelmed with such grief and pain (for anything and everything)? We turn to God. We turn to Him in prayer. We seek His perspective in all matters from His Holy Word – the Bible.

So, what does the Bible say?

James 4:15 “Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord Wills, we will live and do this or that.”

1) We shouldn’t expect anything except that His Will be done. Seek His Will above our desires and expectations.

Psalm 39:4-5 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”

2) Unlimited earthly time is promised to no one. Our days on earth are numbered. God alone knows the number of our days.

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

3) God is in control of everything. Rejoice and appreciate every second of time He gives us.

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

3) God comforts those who mourn. Ask Him to comfort you. Seek Him.

Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

4) The death of saints – true believers in Christ – is precious to God. They will be with God, to praise and worship Him for all eternity.

Wow! It’s amazing what the ‘God perspective’ can do for your thoughts and life! My mind is instantly illuminated by the Truth of God’s Word. I feel the hurt and pain lift off me. I watch the darkness retreat as His Light fills my heart. His Holy Spirit renews and transforms my thinking. I don’t have my earthly father or grandfather but I am not alone. I am not lost without hope. I have found the eternal Father, the Lord God Almighty, the One who will never be taken from me. He comforts me and cares for me. He is in control and I can trust Him with my life and the lives of those that I love.

I sincerely hope this encourages you today. All hope is not lost. You are never alone, no matter how lonely you feel – you are not alone. HE IS WITH YOU ALWAYS (Matthew 28:20).

I’ve also included Romans 8:31-39 as a reminder!

Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love

31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Eternal Salvation is why we need to share Christ with as many people as we can. We share because Jesus commanded us to –  we share, God saves (Matthew 28:18-20). Both my father and grandfather believed in Jesus Christ. Though only God knows the heart of man and who is truly His, I hope to see them again one day in the presence of the Almighty.

God bless you all!

Jennifer – I Give God All The Glory

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!

Reminiscing on Father’s day past and reading old words – parts of my heart etched across the page. My hurt and sadness all mingled together with God’s love transformed by His Word and presence into the beauty of communion with our Heavenly Father. I had to reshare this with y’all. We are not alone. Take comfort Sweet Souls.
