Simply delightful is wisdom from the Lord!

30 days – we did it! Thank You Jesus!

I hope you’ve enjoyed the precious 30 days we spent together as we read through Proverbs 22:17-24:34 – The Thirty Sayings of the Wise. Each day we covered a new saying and discovered new Truths to hide in our hearts. I pray that you are forever changed by these new revelations. It was my honor to pray for wisdom and understanding with you all. It has been my sincere hope that the Lord gave us teachable hearts and minds as we meditated on His glorious Words during those 30 days – may we always remember His Truth!

Here is a recap of each saying and the corresponding prayer:

Proverbs 22:17-24:34 (NIV)

Thirty Sayings of the Wise

Day 1 | Saying 1

17 Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, 18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. 19 So that your trust may be in the Lord, I teach you today, even you. 20 Have I not written thirty sayings for you, sayings of counsel and knowledge, 21 teaching you to be honest and to speak the truth, so that you bring back truthful reports to those you serve?

| Day 1 prayer – God, we thank You for your wonderful instruction. Help us to be honest and truthful, to hide Your Words in our hearts, to apply Your wisdom to our lives, and to place all our trust in You every single day.

Day 2 | Saying 2

22 Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, 23 for the Lord will take up their case and will exact life for life.

| Day 2 prayer – Lord, give us eyes see and hands to meet the needs of the poor, the widows, and the orphans. Help us be fair and just with all people, always treating them in a way that brings you honor and glory.

Day 3 | Saying 3

24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, 25 or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.

| Day 3 prayer – Lord, free us from all anger, resentment, and hostility, help peace prosper in our hearts and follow us wherever we go. Teach us silence, patience and self-control.

Day 4 | Saying 4

26 Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; 27 if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.

| Day 4 prayer – Lord, help us to be content in every circumstance, especially with whatever You have given us, help us see the full weight financial debt, the downward spiral of collateral or secured loans, and the serious yoke of our words and pledges. According to Your command,  let us owe no man nothing but to love them. Let our worth be found in You alone, not physical items and wealth.

Day 5 | Saying 5

28 Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors.

| Day 5 prayer – Lord, let us be satisfied with what lands we are in, dry or flourishing, for all we have is a gift from you, let us not desire our neighbors land and/or personal property lest we become corrupted by envy and covetousness.

Day 6 | Saying 6

29 Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

| Day 6 prayer – Lord, strengthen our minds and hands. Help us put our minds and hands heartily to work for you. Help equip us for every good work. Help us do everything as unto the Lord, so all the earth may see and glorify You.

Day 7 | Saying 7

23 When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, 2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. 3 Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.

| Day 7 – Lord, help us be mindful to starve our fleshly desires. Help us never be self centered and gluttonous but teach us to be self controlled in everything and satisfied in You alone.

Day 8 | Saying 8

4 Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. 5 Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

| Day 8 – Lord, help us cast off fame and riches, for they are fleeting and unsure. You are our anchor always secure. Let us only seek to make You famous and be rich in love. Humble our hearts and minds that we may give all we have to those in need or wherever your hand guides.

Day 9| Saying 9

6 Do not eat the food of a begrudging host, do not crave his delicacies; 7 for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost. “Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. 8 You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments.

| Day 9 – Lord, do not let us fall upon those in abundance, who spew false compliments and empty words, and are not as loving and generous as they appear. May we never be the burden to any but carry and support our own, always being truthful in appearance and deed as to glorify You in everything.

Day 10 | Saying 10

9 Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words.

| Day 10 – Lord, the foolish of this world are blind to the beauty of Your wisdom and instruction. Please unblind them all. They scoff and sneer at the precious breath we waste in which to offer Your eternal knowledge and shine Your lamp of Truth into the darkness. Help us see when to cast our pearls according to Your Will so that Your Words won’t be trampled on and discarded like trash by foolish, blinded hearts.

Day 11 | Saying 11

10 Do not move an ancient boundary stone or encroach on the fields of the fatherless, 11 for their Defender is strong; he will take up their case against you.

| Day 11 – Lord, thank You for caring and taking us in as Your own. You are our Redeemer and Defender, a stronghold in Whom we hide from the wicked. Protect us Lord, keep us and all you’ve given us safe under the shelter of Your mighty wings.

Day 12 | Saying 12

12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.

| Day 12 – Lord, thank You for Your glorious Word, help us read it and store it in our hearts that we might not sin against You. Help us hear and understand Your commands rightly. Help us recall Your instruction as needed throughout our lives, we know You have a good Word for every situation we could ever face. May we praise You through it all.

Day 13 | Saying 13

13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. 14 Punish them with the rod and save them from death.

| Day 13 – Lord, thank you for loving us. As such, we know You discipline those You love. Yet, “no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Be with us and comfort us in our pain that we may persevere during discipline and training to produce a harvest of righteousness and peace.

Day 14 | Saying 14

15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed; 16 my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.

| Day 14 – Lord, we know You find immense joy when we seek Your wisdom and guidance in all things. Help us to seek Your Light and speak Your Truth in all things. May we always be pleasing to You.

Day 15 | Saying 15

17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. 18 There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

| Day 15 – Lord, when we see evil prosper, remind us that the reward for sin is death and separation from You – all who pursue this path have their part in the lake of fire. Remind us that though they seem to succeed in the world, You see and know it all, and every one of us will give an account to You. There is nothing to envy from evildoers because their toil leads to fiery death. But the reward for the one who seeks to put You first – above all others – and places their full trust and faith in You has everlasting life.

Day 16 | Saying 16

19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path: 20 Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, 21 for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

| Day 16 – Lord, help us cast off all the desires of our flesh. Remind us that full satisfaction is only found in You; not drugs, alcohol, food, things, or people but You alone. Nothing completes us like You. Nothing fulfills us like You. Help us set our minds and hearts on You, steady our path, that we may be rooted in Your righteous Way.

Day 17 | Saying 17

22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth and do not sell it— wisdom, instruction and insight as well. 24 The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. 25 May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!

| Day 17 – Lord, help us have thankful hearts that cherish wisdom and Truth so we may be the joy of our earthly parents but most of all You.

Day 18 | Saying 18

26 My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways, 27 for an adulterous woman is a deep pit, and a wayward wife is a narrow well. 28 Like a bandit she lies in wait and multiplies the unfaithful among men.

| Day 18 – Lord, arrest our hearts, hold captive every fleshly desire and thought that exults itself against You. Let not one of us be enticed and carried away by sin, wickedness, selfishness, or evil ways. Cleanse us and we will be clean. Redeem us and we will be redeemed. Reveal Your righteousness to us and we will never stray from it.

Day 19 | Saying 19

29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? 30 Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. 31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! 32 In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind will imagine confusing things. 34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. 35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?”

| Day 19 – Lord, help us be mindful of the consequences of drunkenness or drug-induced altered states of mind – worries, stife, and needless wounds – oh, that You would have mercy and enable us to flee from those types of self-inflicted torment. May we never be chained to anything other than You.

Day 20 | Saying 20

24 Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; 2 for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.

| Day 20 – Lord, let us eat of Your words and be full – complete and lacking nothing – so we will not be inclined to look on the wicked with envy and delusion of their riches and false joy. Reveal these people to us so we will not take part in their violent hearts and troubled talk. Let us desire only You Lord, not evil.

Day 21 | Saying 21

3 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; 4 through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

| Day 21 – Lord, Your Word says a house built on the Rock of Your foundation will not be shaken, it can withstand the storms of life. May we do so and eagerly fill every part of lives with the glory and wisdom of Your Word. Oh, that You would be our most prized treasure!

Day 22 | Saying 22

5 The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength. 6 Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.

| Day 22 – Lord, may we find strength for the battle through Your mighty power and wisdom for life in Your precious Word. Please surround us with wise council who is obedient to You and sound in their guidance. May we walk in victory over sin and fear through You.

Day 23 | Saying 23

7 Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.

| Day 23 – Lord, Your ways, understanding, and wisdom are above ours, help us lay ourselves down and seek to live for You, no matter the cost. May Your Holy Spirit fill us with Your vast knowledge and Truth so that we will shamelessly open our mouths to share Your wisdom and Salvation with the world. Let us never grow weary with this task but always seek after it through Your power, not ours.

Day 24 | Sayings 24

8 Whoever plots evil will be known as a schemer. 9 The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.

| Day 24 – Lord, enlighten what’s dark in us so we will not plot evil, tell lies, or rejoice in sin and wrongdoing. Help us flee evil, tell the Truth in every circumstance, and rejoice always in righteousness and holiness – lest we make a mockery of our faith and the hope of our Salvation. Let us be washed clean and living anew through You every day.

Day 25 | Saying 25

10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! 11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

| Day 25 – Lord, help us remain strong in unwavering faith. Help us be merciful to those who doubt so that we will boldly snatch them out of the fire. How Lord will they know of the One in whom they haven’t heard? Or call on the One in whom they haven’t believed? You Lord, know all, every heart, may You call each and draw them unto You. Help us to be Your messengers Lord and make it a top priority for us. May we like Paul, witness to the lost from morning till evening, explaining the mysteries of the Kingdom of God from the Law of Moses and the Prophets as to persuade them about Jesus and the eternal gift of Salvation.

Day 26 | Saying 26

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

| Day 26 – Lord, may we eat of Your Word and be satisfied. May we savor the deliciousness of Your Word, sweet as honey and full of wisdom. Your Word says that we do not live on bread alone but from every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Yes Lord, may we live through You alone – sustain us oh God.

Day 27 | Saying 27

15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place; 16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

| Day 27 – Lord, help us remember that though we may fall, we shall rise again. Settle our hearts so we may rest knowing that no matter what You will not permit the righteous to be shaken. We will not stumble liked the wicked who have no Light to guide their way. You are faithful and trustworthy. Continue to lead and protect us every day.

Day 28 | Saying 28

17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, 18 or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.

| Day 28 – Lord, in all things we are reminded of the great hope of Salvation we have in You. We ask You to teach us love and compassion so we may forgive others as You have forgiven us. Regarding the wicked who hate us, may we do good for them and not rejoice in their hopeless stumbling – may we point them to You instead. Help us bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us. Help us love them. We want to please You always.

Day 29 | Saying 29

19 Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, 20 for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

| Day 29 – Lord, remind us that the wage for sin is death. Thank You for paying that for us, may we never be envious of those who seem to get away with their evil deeds. We know You see all and everyone of us will give an account to You. We thank You and praise You for our Salvation and eternal hope in You.

Day 30 | Saying 30

21 Fear the Lord and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials, 22 for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring?

| Day 30 – Lord, we thank You for allowing us boldly into Your presence. We cherish these precious times of prayer with You. We are in awe of You. We fall on our faces before You in worship. We love You Lord. We know You are a God of unity and love, not division and rivalry. Help us always have a real view of You, a real fear of You, and a real love of you. Help us stay true, faithful, and obedient to You first and foremost but to also obey those You have given authority and chosen to rule over us.

In Jesus mighty name we pray all these things!

Below are the additional sayings of the wise (bonus). I asked you all to create your own corresponding prayers for these. How’d you do? What did God reveal to you? Will you share? I pray you do! 🙂

Further Sayings of the Wise

23 These also are sayings of the wise:
To show partiality in judging is not good: 24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations. 25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.

26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

27 Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.

28 Do not testify against your neighbor without cause— would you use your lips to mislead?

29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”

30 I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense; 31 thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins. 32 I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw: 33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— 34 and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!
