Jesus Is The True Vine – What Vine Are You Connected To?

“He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, He will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.”- Romans 2:6-8

God’s Word is clear yet some who claim Christianity seem to be all about themselves. They are consumed with what they say, what they look like, and what they do. They are so closely knit with this world – the comings and goings of it – there is no separation between them and the unsaved. Except perhaps, that they claim they are Christian. Watching their faith in action (or lack there of) reveals lives not built on the foundation of Christ. Their lives are built on shallow selfish, self-centered desires.

Bad fruit is easily recognizable.

Those living in the flesh say…

“It’s my time!”

“I do what makes me happy.”

“I need ‘this’ to feel good!”

“It’s just a harmless _______ (fill in the blank – shoe, coffee, etc.) pleasure (read addiction)!”

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, BUT those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” – Romans 8:5

Self-focused living is false. It’s a lie.

To that self-obsessed logic, I say, “I’ve never read that in the Bible, can you please point me to the verses that teach your rationale as acceptable behavior for the children of the One true and living God?”

Can’t be done. It’s not in there. Nope, not anywhere!

Sweet Souls, all we need is Jesus and if we never got another thing, we’d be perfectly complete. {That’s a God-sized promise you can count on.} His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). We are called to godly grief which produces a repentance that leads to Salvation through Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 7:10). Then, we will receive the Holy Spirit who will teach and lead us into all Truth (John 14:26). As we are taught and led by God, He will increase, and we will decrease (John 3:30). We press on to grow up in every way into Christ (Ephesians 4:15) as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God (Romans 12:1). We must be imitators of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1) because God predestined us to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). [Sidenote: Foolishness alert! I’ve actually heard people say they are tired of all this ‘be like Christ’ talk?! Yes, Christians say stuff like that! They say it’s unrealistic and impossible. Tell me then, why does God’s Word say differently? Do yourselves an eternal favor, get a Bible and READ it!!]

If you are rooted in Christ, you will bear His fruit. As you are conformed to His image you will walk, talk, and look like Him. Just like a banana tree won’t grow tomatoes or a rose bush won’t grow dandelions, neither should one of Christ’s vine be different from Him.

The fruit produced by a tree depends on the seed that sprouts at the root of it. If you’re rooted and built up in the world and its passion, so will your fruit be – utterly worthless. If you are rooted and built up in Christ Jesus, you will be reinforced by His perfect character and values instead of your selfish desires and immorality. Everlasting life is priceless people. I know that sounds like a Mastercard commercial but it’s TRUE! We need to be rooted in Christ. The seed of His Word needs to take deep root in our hearts.

But what happens if you find yourself rooted (planted) in the wrong garden?

Sweet Souls, if you find yourself in this place today, if you find yourself planted in the wrong garden – uproot yourself now! Really! Do it now! NOW!

Perhaps, it’s not that bad for some of you. Maybe you’re planted in the garden of Christ but a few intruders have snuck in to set up shop – everything they peddle is contrary to Christ. Child of God, it’s time to clean up your soil. Pluck ’em up and cast ’em out ASAP! While you’re at it, prune any growth that doesn’t measure up to the Word of God. Just do it – we’re talking about eternal rewards here! Anything that doesn’t bear His Name needs to be uprooted and cast into the fire!

If you’re unsure about what God’s Word says, if you’re unsure if ‘something’ in your life measures up to it – get your mind and heart in His Word right away. Don’t ever neglect renewing and transforming your mind in the Word of God. How will you know His ways if you never take the time to discover them? And don’t even think about telling Him you don’t have time for that. If you do, He may tell you the same…

Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV)

I Never Knew You

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the Will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

…find the time to know Him Sweet Souls. Make the time. Just do it. You don’t want the alternative.

Let’s pray:

Lord, firmly plant us in Your soil, so that we will grow in You and bear Your fruit. Feed and nuture us from Your Word so we’ll grow beautifully into Your vine. Apart from You we can do nothing and are nothing…

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in Him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

…We know Lord, anything built on any other foundation or grown in any other soil will perish…

“2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away…6 If anyone does not abide in Me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.” – John 15:2,6

…Help us chose to live in You, grafted into Your vine, bearing everlasting fruit that glorifies You, for You alone are so worthy of the praise…

“8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” – John 15:8

…in the precious Name of Jesus we pray. AMEN.

I thank God for you friend – Sweet Souls of God our Father. I hope you feel what an equipping He has given you. His divine power gives you everything you need for everlasting life and godliness – now walk in it!  It is my sincere prayer that you continue steadfastly in love and faith so you may persevere in obedience as God builds you up from glory to glory in the image of His son Christ Jesus. May He bless you always.

Jennifer – I Give God All The Glory

I am a daughter of God, a servant of the Lord, a wife to a patient husband, and a mama of two forgiving boys. God has placed these three men in my life needfully so. I thank Him for them everyday. And like so many of the Lord’s children, I am a work-of-glory-in-progress. I am on a journey to reclaim and renew my life in Christ. It took me 34 years to learn that when nothing else works, God does!
